"Music education can help spark a child's imagination or ignite a lifetime of passion. When you provide a child with new worlds to explore and challenges to tackle, the possibilities are endless. Music education should not be a privilege for a lucky few; it should be a part of every child's world of possibility"!
- Hillary Clinton

Who leads Music at Clockhouse?
I am Miss Kearns and I lead Music at Clockhouse Primary School.
One of the biggest rewards in teaching and one of the main reasons why I enjoy leading Music so much is because I get to see our children go from having no musical knowledge to playing or singing proficiently. Leading Music also gives me the opportunity to engage with pupils in a creative way and I have the privilege of observing them come into their own, succeed and enjoy a new skill. Not only is Music a healthy outlet for self-expression with many health and wellbeing benefits, it is also an extremely important subject, with many, sometimes hidden, values, which supports the development of the whole child.
What is Music all about at Clockhouse?
At Clockhouse Primary School, we encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to increase the confidence of all children. We are committed to providing a Music curriculum that ensures children sing, listen, sign, compose, play, perform and evaluate. This is embedded in classroom activities, various concerts and performances, and the opportunity to explore and learn musical instruments.
We encourage children to focus on the work of great musicians for inspiration and exploration, and to build up a repertoire of techniques and approaches that they can apply in their own compositions. We are committed to developing a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music, and an unbiased respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life. We are dedicated to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.
Music enables our children to develop an understanding of culture and history, in relation to both themselves and to other ethnicities from across the world. Our pupils are able to enjoy music in as many ways as they choose – either as listener, creator or performer – to create an enormously rich palette from which they can access fundamental abilities such as: achievement, self-confidence, interaction with and awareness of others, and self-reflection.
As a school, we continue to keep up to date on new and exciting changes within the Music curriculum, ensuring that our children are given the best education in this subject.
