Delightful Dissolving

Year 5 have been learning about changing materials. The children have previously investigated the properties of materials and are moving onto how materials can change. They were tasked with investigating how different temperature affects the rate of sugar dissolving in water. 
 
They used three different temperatures, ensuring it was made a fair test by keeping all other variables the same. The children timed how long the sugar took to dissolve in hot, warm and cold water. Their findings showed that sugar dissolved quickest in hot water and we discovered that this is because there is more energy in hot water to make the particles dissolve.
 
Even the class mascots got involved!
