In Year 6 we have been learning about the circulatory system. We discovered the different components that make up our blood by creating our own representations of what our blood looks like.
Did you know that our blood is both a liquid and a solid? The liquid part is the plasma which makes up 55% of our blood. To represent our the plasma we used yellow coloured water with a pinch of salt - the salt is the minerals and vitamins in our blood. Next we added the solids. We started with our red blood cells (red dyed cheerio's), which is 44% of our blood. Then we added the white blood cells (we used mini marshmallows) and the platelets (coloured mosaic squares) both of which make up 0.05% of our blood. We had a great time and cannot wait to learn more about this interesting topic.
