Year 2 at Clockhouse Primary is a fun and exciting place to be, where we work and learn together to be the best that we can be!
We have a great team of teachers who help to make our learning interesting and memorable! The year two teaching team comprises of: Miss Ettridge / Mrs Wilkinson (Mexico); Miss Rajan (Canada) and Miss Salmon (USA). We have a fantastic team of TAs and LSAs who support us both in class and in group work that we do.
Our year is jam-packed with exciting topics. Our developing skills in English and maths are put into context with links to these topics wherever appropriate.
During the autumn term we will be travelling ‘around the world in six weeks’ in our unit ‘Explorers’. We will investigate foods from around the world and learn about different materials to create clothing appropriate to different climates.
Later this term we will focus in on transport and consider how this has changed over the years. We will learn about significant events from history, including the development of space travel and consider what the future may hold!
During the spring term we will be thinking about what people and animals need to keep healthy. We will learn about healthy food, exercise and why keeping our bodies clean is important.
Later this term our theme will be, ‘From Field to Fork’ as we learn about the journey food makes to get from the field to our plates. We will find out about how plants grow and what they need to grow well.
During the summer term we will be learning about habitats in ‘Who lives in a house like this?’ We will think about how habitats can change due to human activity and learn about the migration of the monarch butterfly.
We will end the year with our topic on on India in our topic ‘Incredible India’. We will develop our knowledge of geographical terms so that we can draw comparisons between different regions.
During the year we will have lots of other exciting events… keep checking the website and letters home for further information. We would also love to hear from you if you feel that you could contribute to any area of the curriculum this year.
Towards the end of the year, we will get to meet our Year 3 teachers and spend time in the Key Stage 2 building. This will help us know what to expect when we return in September so that we are ready and rearing to go for the next fun year ahead!
