Friday 19th October Staff Training Day - school closed to children

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Year 2 is an exciting year to be a part of, it is also known as the continent of North America! Like every Year Group at Clockhouse, we have a fun-filled, creative curriculum to excite and inspire the children of the year group. Our teachers work hard to ensure that we make the learning in Year 2 exciting and memorable. Our teachers are Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Rice (Mexico), Miss Burrows (Canada) and Mrs Diggines (USA). We also have a number of other adults who help us learn, make progress and be the best that we can be.

Our exciting lessons are linked to the Clockhouse Curriculum and using our topics we also have the opportunity to develop and improve our Literacy and Numeracy skills. During Year 2 we will be learning through the exciting themes of the Polar Regions, China, Healthy Us and Castles and Knights. At the start of each new topic we have an entry point activity which helps us to get involved in the new theme and motivated to learn. At the end of each topic we have an Exit Point where we celebrate our learning throughout the topic. We often invite our parents in as this gives us the opportunity to share our learning in a fun and meaningful way.

During the Autumn term, we learn about the Polar Regions as part of our topic “Who would like to live in a place like this?” The children will learn about the people who live in cold climates and learn about different materials to create clothing appropriate to different climates. They will also be learning about penguins and where they live and what they eat.

During the Spring term, we learn about China as part of our topic “Let’s go to China”. The children will consider how China has changed over time. We will learn about their customs and traditions and the different food they eat. Later this term we will be thinking about what humans and animals need to keep healthy. This is part of our topic “How can I be healthy?” We will learn about healthy food, exercise and why keeping our bodies clean is important. We will also be learning about Florence Nightingale and her charity work.

During the Summer term, we learn about Castles and Knights as a part of our topic “Are all castles bouncy?” We will be learning about Castles and famous Knights. This will include learning about the structure of Castles, who used them and how.

During each topic we will have a home learning project which provides an opportunity to learn about the things that interest us and we want to find out about.

During the year we will have lots of other exciting events… keep checking the website and letters home for further information.

All this sensational learning means that we enjoy our time in Year 2 and are ready and excited for the new challenges ahead of us in Year 3!
