Governors' Annual Report to Parents - 2025-2026

The Governing Body is delighted to present its Annual Report to Parents for the 2025/2026 academic year. This report reflects on another highly successful year for Clockhouse Primary School, celebrating the achievements of our pupils, staff and wider school community while outlining the strategic role governors play in supporting the school's continued success.

As governors, our responsibility is to provide strategic leadership, ensure effective financial oversight, hold school leaders to account for educational performance and support the continued development of a school where every child can thrive. We are proud of all that has been achieved this year and remain ambitious for the future.

Clockhouse has enjoyed another exceptional year. Through an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation and inclusion, the school has continued to strengthen every aspect of its provision. We are particularly proud that Clockhouse remains consistently oversubscribed and continues to be the school of choice for many families within the Collier Row community. This is a testament to the confidence parents place in the high-quality education, exceptional care and extensive opportunities provided for every child.

The quality of teaching and learning remains a significant strength of the school. Staff consistently deliver ambitious, engaging and inclusive lessons that enable pupils to achieve their very best. High expectations, carefully targeted support and a culture of continuous improvement ensure that pupils make excellent progress regardless of their starting points and leave Clockhouse well prepared for the next stage of their education.

This year's assessment outcomes further demonstrate the strength of the school's provision. We are particularly pleased with the achievements of pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage, the Phonics Screening Check, the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check and the Year 6 statutory assessments. Internal assessment information also demonstrates strong progress across every year group, reflecting both the dedication of our staff and the determination of our pupils.

Reading has remained a central priority throughout the year. The successful completion of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) Reading Project has embedded evidence-informed practice across the school and further strengthened our approach to the teaching of reading. Our ongoing partnership with the local Phonics Hub has ensured that staff remain at the forefront of best practice, and we were delighted to receive highly positive feedback following an unannounced phonics monitoring visit. Together, these achievements reinforce our commitment to ensuring that every child develops into a confident, fluent and enthusiastic reader.

Our curriculum remains one of the school's greatest strengths. Designed to meet the needs of all learners, it provides pupils with a rich and engaging educational experience that extends well beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, pupils have benefited from an extensive range of enrichment opportunities, including educational visits, residential experiences, sporting competitions, clubs, themed curriculum days and visitors to school. These experiences broaden horizons, develop cultural capital and create lasting memories that enrich learning.

The Clockhouse curriculum is underpinned by our six curriculum drivers: Aspiration, Challenge, Creativity, Global Citizenship, Cultural Capital and Well-being. These principles shape every aspect of teaching and learning, ensuring pupils leave Clockhouse as confident, resilient and compassionate young people who are well equipped for the future.

Significant investment has also been made in our learning environment. The final phase of our classroom refurbishment programme has now been completed, ensuring every classroom across the school provides a bright and inspiring place to learn. Our Key Stage 1 playground has been transformed with new play equipment and redesigned outdoor spaces, creating exciting opportunities for imaginative play, physical activity and social development. Building upon the success of our Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) provision, outdoor learning and play opportunities have also been enhanced within Key Stage 2.

During the autumn term, pupils also enjoyed the unique opportunity of having an on-site swimming pool. This enabled every child to participate in swimming lessons as part of the PE curriculum, ensuring equal access to high-quality swimming instruction and water safety education. This initiative further demonstrated our commitment to providing inclusive and enriching experiences for every pupil.

Inclusion remains at the heart of everything we do. This year saw the introduction of our new Personal Development Team, working under the ethos of Every Child Can. This reflects our belief that every pupil has the potential to succeed and deserves the support needed to achieve their personal best. The appointment of dedicated Pupil Premium Champions has further strengthened our work to reduce barriers to learning and ensure disadvantaged pupils continue to flourish.

Clockhouse is a caring, welcoming and inclusive community where pupils feel safe, respected and valued. Our strong safeguarding culture, positive behaviour ethos and commitment to emotional well-being ensure that every child develops confidence, resilience and a genuine love of learning.

Strong partnerships with parents and carers remain fundamental to the school's success. We are extremely grateful for the trust, encouragement and support shown by our families. By working together, we continue to provide the very best opportunities for every child.

Our values of Nurture, Respect, Learning, Community, Excellence and Excitement remain at the heart of school life. Through our Value Characters and the consistent promotion of these shared values, pupils develop empathy, responsibility, kindness and a strong sense of belonging within the Clockhouse family.

This year also marked an exciting development within our leadership team. We were delighted to welcome our Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Abeledo, who has settled seamlessly into her role and quickly become a highly valued member of the Clockhouse family. Her expertise, enthusiasm and commitment have already made a significant contribution to the continued success of the school.

We are equally proud that our Headteacher's expertise continues to be recognised beyond Clockhouse. This year, Mrs Jo Savidge co-authored the book Outstanding Against the Odds: How Seven Schools Achieve Excellence, alongside Sonia Gill. The publication shares leadership strategies and best practices from schools that have achieved exceptional standards, providing inspiration for educational leaders across the country.

Alongside this achievement, Mrs Savidge has continued to work with other schools through educational consultancy, supporting leaders to strengthen teaching, learning and leadership so that more schools can achieve exceptional outcomes. As governors, we are proud that Clockhouse contributes to the wider educational community by sharing its expertise and supporting school improvement beyond our own setting. This outward-facing approach reflects our belief that successful schools have a responsibility to support others, ultimately benefiting children across the wider education system.

The Governing Body, comprising 12 dedicated governors, has continued to provide effective strategic leadership and robust challenge throughout the year. Governors have monitored progress against the School Improvement Plan and scrutinised pupil achievement, safeguarding, attendance, finance, curriculum developments and the impact of school improvement initiatives. Through regular visits, committee meetings and full governing body meetings, governors have ensured that every decision remains firmly focused on securing the very best outcomes for all pupils. We remain committed to supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team while fulfilling our responsibility to provide constructive challenge, strategic direction and strong accountability.

This year, we said farewell to Mrs Catherine Neal and Mrs Jo Wright, as they stepped down from the Governing Body. We extend our sincere thanks for their dedicated service, commitment and valuable contribution to the school during their time as governors. We are also delighted to welcome Mr Achillea to the Governing Body and look forward to the knowledge, experience and fresh perspective he will bring to the role.

The Governing Body would like to thank our Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and every member of staff for their exceptional dedication, professionalism and passion. We would also like to thank our pupils, parents, carers and the wider community for their continued support. The success of Clockhouse is built upon these strong partnerships and the shared ambition we all have for our children.

As we look ahead to the 2026/2027 academic year, we do so with confidence and optimism. We remain ambitious for every child and committed to continually strengthening every aspect of school life. Through continued investment in our staff, curriculum and learning environment, we are confident that Clockhouse Primary School will continue to provide an exceptional education while remaining a place where every child feels valued, inspired and empowered to succeed.
