Clockhouse are worthy Finalists!
The Junior Travel Ambassadors, Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Matthews attended the TFL(Transport for London) Travel for Life Finalist Awards at Kia Oval. We were very honoured that the Local Authority had nominated us for the Modeshift Impact Award. This relates to increasing the number of children who use active travel (bike, walk etc.) and decreasing the number of children who use sustainable travel (car etc.) to come to school. Although we did not win the category, we were very proud to be nominated.
During the day, we heard from different people from TFL. This included the Team GB Olympian, Victoria Ohuruogu. The children took part in two different workshops. One of these was how to present in front of people. James M-H (Japan) was chosen to stand up in front of everyone and take part in a small competition. He was in the final too! They also created posters to encourage people to change the way they travel etc. The children created a poster about slowing down when driving near the school and making sure that people look and think when driving. A member of staff from the London Transport Museum took a photograph of each of these and the posters will be available to see at the museum in the coming months.
Overall, it was a very good day and the children were true Clockhouse Citizens. Listening to what other schools have done has given us some ideas to bring back to school - watch this space!

Clockhouse Achieves GOLD... again!!!!

Each year STARS schools replace 13 million miles' worth of car journeys with walking, cycling and scooting!
Clockhouse Primary School annually partakes in the TFL STARS Scheme. STARS is TfL's accreditation scheme for London schools. STARS inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling. STARS supports pupils' wellbeing, helps to reduce congestion at the school gates and improves road safety.
Did you know the average journey to school is less than one kilometre that is around a ten-minute walk! However, many of these journeys are made by car leading to congestion and an unsafe and polluted environment for us all. By swapping car journeys for active travel, together STARS schools can make a real difference to our city and support the Mayor’s vision for Healthy Streets.
We are pleased to announce that Clockhouse Primary School has achieved gold accreditation for the fifth consecutive time. This is a whole school achievement with children across the school being involved. Following our most recent annual survey car use overall has gone down and this is one of the main factors in achieving gold status.
Well done to our whole community for helping us achieve this prestigious award!
